KINGS OF PERSIS. Autophradates (Vadfradad) II, early-mid 2nd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.66 g, 12 h), Istakhr (Persepolis). Bearded head of Vadfradad II to right, wearing diadem and kyrbasia topped by an eagle with spread wings. Rev. 𐡐𐡕 ('ft' in Aramaic) Fire-temple of Ahura-Mazda; above, half-figure of Ahura-Mazda to left; to left, King standing right, his hands raised in adoration; to right, eagle standing left on standard. Alram 546 var. (differing legend). K&M 3/1 var. (anepigraphic). Mitchiner -, cf. 736 (drachm). Sunrise 574 var. (anepigraphic). An apparently unique variety of a very rare type. Struck on a thick flan, beautifully toned and with a bold and expressive portrait. Good very fine.
